What is a Long Reach PoE (LPR) network?

​

When creating an IP network infrastructure, the issues of distance, power supply, and cable deployment for network coverage are the main concerns of administrators.

​

To solve these problems, PLANET launched the long-range PoE solution, making it a perfect and fast solution for realizing long-distance and low-cost networks.

​

Long Reach PoE (LPR) technology enables the deployment of IP networks over distances greater than 100 meters, traditionally designed for Ethernet networks, enabling the creation of IP infrastructure in remote areas without the need for additional power sources and rewiring.

Realizing the Wide-Area Network with Multiple Media

 

PLANET’s Long Reach PoE (LPR) solution is designed to extend Ethernet IP transmission and simultaneously inject power over any coaxial, UTP twisted pair or telephone cable at distances of up to 1,000m to PoE-compatible IP cameras, PoE-compatible outdoor wireless access points (APs), PoE-compatible indoor wireless access points (APs) and any 802.3af/at-compatible device (PD). The solution also eliminates the need for an additional power supply for remote locations when the existing single power source allows power to LRP extenders and PDs at long distances.

PLANET provides two types of Long Reach PoE solution for different applications:

 

»Long-range PoE over coaxial cables

Uses BNC connector for coaxial cable interface.

 

»Long-range PoE over UTP/twisted pair copper wires

Uses RJ45 connector for 8, 4 or 2 wire UTP cables.

PLANET Long Reach PoE solution consists of Long Reach PoE over Coax Switches, Long Reach PoE over Coax/UTP Injectors and Long Reach PoE over Coax/UTP Extenders that allow your IP network infrastructure to be flexibly deployed anywhere in the long term.

Multi-port LRP Switches with Intelligent PoE Management

 

PLANET Long Reach PoE over Coax Switch is a multi-channel unit that comes with L2/L4 switching engine, IPv6/IPv4 protocol and single power source. LongReachPoE over Coax switches are equipped with 4, 8 or 16 LongReachPoE injector ports with an integrated power source for all coaxially connected LRP extenders to power and transmit IP video and data. All PLANET LRP switches are equipped with additional Gigabit copper ports and 100/1000BASE-X SFP fiber slots for high data bandwidth and video uplink.

As an advanced PoE switch designed for seamless wireless or surveillance networks, the Long Reach PoE over Coax Switch series features intelligent PoE management functions such as active PD checking, scheduled power recycling, and over-temperature protection to improve the availability of critical business applications. In addition, the time-based PoE scheduling function can be used to control PoE power supply during specified time intervals to help enterprises and campuses save energy and operating costs.

Single-Port LRP Injectors​


The Long Reach PoE over Coaxial/UTP Injectors are installed at the main site connected to a Network Video Recorder (NVR) or Layer 3 Core Switch. With plug-and-play configuration, the Long Reach PoE over Coaxial/UTP Injectors can instantly deliver DC power to LRP Extenders, simultaneously transmitting data and power up to 1,000 meters over a coaxial cable or 500 meters over a UTP twisted pair cable.

 

​Single-Port LRP Extenders

​

The Long Reach PoE over Coaxial/UTP Extender is designed to transmit power and data to PoE IP cameras, outdoor PoE-compatible wireless access points (APs), indoor PoE-compatible wireless access points, and any 802.3af/at PoE powered device (PD) in remote areas. Powered by an LRP Switch or LRP Injector, the Long Reach PoE over Coaxial/UTP Extender, a single-port 802.3at PoE+ device, provides a maximum power output of 25 watts per Ethernet cable, transmitting both data and power simultaneously to any PoE PD.

Multiple nodes in a chain

​

PLANET LRP injectors and LRP extenders can flexibly expand the network using the BNC T connector to share up to four nodes per port when needed. It greatly facilitates multiple LRP extenders powered by one LRP injector at long range.

With advanced IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack management, integrated L2/L4 Gigabit switching engine, and industry-leading PoE management functions, PLANET LongReachPoE over Coaxial switches can easily build a power system for centrally controlled IP cameras or wireless APs with high availability of network infrastructure. Benefits of PLANET LongReachPoE solution

Long Distance Extension

​

A normal UTP cable can only be extended up to 100 meters, but the PLANET LongReachPoE solution can extend the network through existing UTP cables up to 500 meters.

 

The original coaxial cable can be extended up to 1,000 meters, but no guarantee of stable video transmission; however, PLANET LongReachPoE solution can extend the IP network through the existing coaxial cables with stable and high-quality video transmission.

Complete solution for power supply in remote areas

Supported by IEEE 802.3af/at PoE PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) standard interface, PLANET LRP extenders, PoE IP cameras, PoE-compatible Outdoor Wireless Access Points (APs) and PoE-compatible Indoor Wireless Access Points (APs) can be easily installed on the street corner of a city for surveillance and Internet service demands. Without the trouble of power source, it makes the installation of PoE devices easier and more efficient.
